Help: Your Individual.com NewsPage Email and Internet Version
Although these two services can be used independently, most individuals use both services in tandem. Derived from your custom news settings established on the Individual.com Website, your Individual.com NewsPage Email will appear in your email box every morning containing the day's headlines and news relevant to your needs. Because of time zone differences in the U.S., we offer two editions. One goes out between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. EST, the other between 11a.m. and 12 p.m. EST. Your Individual.com NewsPage Email consists of your top 4 topics and links to your other topics and companies. It can be accessed and used with or without Internet access. When connected to the Internet, all the links on the Email are "live," providing a much richer experience. In addition to your NewsPage Email, you can read your news anytime from any Internet-enabled device by logging into Individual.com. The NewsPage is divided into columns with a top horizontal area that covers the columns. This top horizontal area of the page is the masthead where we put our logo, your name and some links. Your Email is sent in plain HTML and looks much like the Internet version. Since most people accessing the NewsPage Email are connected to the Internet, the left column of the page (also called the left navigation column) consists of all your topics (My Topics), the companies you are tracking (My Companies), a list of all the Newdesks (whether they contain topic you have selected or not), a search widget and a complete settings offering (My Settings). Think of the left column as your personal table of contents and navigation tool. In My Topics, for instance, the table of contents displays all your topic choices in your order of priority. If you are connected to the Internet, clicking on any My Topics or My Companies option in left navigation column will bring up the day's news in the center content area of the page. All of your information (e.g., headlines, briefs, full-text articles, stock quotes, charts, etc.) will be displayed in this main content area.
The first 5 news briefs for each of your top 4 topics will be automatically displayed in the center column of your NewsPage. You can click on any news brief to see its full text. When your topics have more than 5 news briefs, you can see the additional ones by clicking the link that appears after the last news brief under the topic, provided you are connected to the Internet. If you are connected to the Internet, you can click on any of your topics in the left navigation column to see additional news briefs. In the center content column you will see 20 news briefs for that topic with additional ones available by clicking the link that appears after the last new brief on the page. If you'd like to see the full article, simply click on the headline and the story will appear in the same column. To view the day's news in another topic, just click on another topic title in the My Topics box.
You can have up to 100 topics in your profile. To avoid creating your own information overload, though, we suggest having fewer than 100 in your profile. Like maybe 10 to 20. To learn what additional topics are available, click the My Topics link in the left navigation column in the My Settings box. The My Settings list is the last box on the column, so you may have to scroll down a bit to see it. Once you find the topics you want, you can add them to your profile by clicking the box next to the desired topic. The box should now have a check mark in it. To remove a topic, click the corresponding box, which will have a check in it. The check mark will disappear and the topic will be removed. To expand a Newsdesk to see all of its topics, click on the "+" sign in front of it. When you are done, click the Update Topics button and your My Topics section on your Personal Homepage will be changed to reflect your modifications. After you click the Update Topics button, you will be asked to prioritize your topics. This is very important as the top 4 Topics you specify will be used to create your NewsPage. Use the buttons to order your topics and when done, click the Update Priorities button. Your NewsPage Email is meant to be as dynamic as you are, so feel free to change and prioritize your Topics at any time.
If you are connected to the Internet and would like to see news briefs for your selected companies, click on the company's name in the My Companies box in the left navigation column. In the center content column you will see up to 20 news briefs for that company with additional ones available by clicking the link that appears after the last new brief on the page. If you'd like to see the full article, simply click on the headline and the story will appear in the same column. To view the day's news for another of your companies, just click on another company name in the My Companies box.
You can have up to 50 companies in your profile. To avoid creating your own information overload, though, we suggest having fewer than 50 in your profile. Like maybe 10 to 20. If you are connected to the Internet, you can change this setting by clicking the My Companies link in the left navigation column in the My Settings box. The My Settings list is the last box on the column, so you may have to scroll down a bit to see it. To add a company, you can type in the name of the company or its trading symbol and click the Lookup button. The company(ies) that meet your lookup criteria will then appear on a list. You can review the list and then click the company name that matches the company you are searching for. The selected company will then become part of your list. To delete a selected company, simply click the Delete link next to it. When you are all done adding and deleting companies to your profile, click the Done button. After you click the Done button, you will be asked to prioritize your companies. Use the buttons to order your topics and when done, click the Done button.
